AN ACT TO PROVIDE A WORK TRAINING PROGRAM FOR INMATES IN TRADES IN WHICH THERE IS A SHORTAGE OF WORKERS; TO AUTHORIZE THE COMMISSIONER OF CORRECTIONS TO COOPERATE WITH PRIVATE INDUSTRY; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. (1) The Department of Corrections shall establish a work training program in conjunction with private industry to provide training to inmates in those trades in which there is a shortage of workers.
(2) The commissioner is authorized to cooperate with private industry for the establishment of a work training program at the South Mississippi Correctional Institution.
(3) Private industry shall provide the training at such institution.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 1999.
